Unconditional Love for the Youths
Agape, in Greek translates to unconditional love, which portrays the foundation of Agape Vision. Agape Vision is a volunteer-run society that aims to reach out to at-risk, abused and marginalised youths. The vision for Agape Vision is to give hope and a voice to sexually abused children and subsequently, supporting their journey to healing from the trauma of the harrowing incident and honing their skills required for their future.
Agape Vision is founded by Gillian Chong with the thought to help sexually abused children and children from disadvantaged backgrounds. Since young, she felt that our country isn’t prepared to handle at risk and abused youths and there’s a large need in that area but nothing’s been done. Agape Vision is assisted with 10 qualified volunteers who have counselling and psychology degree backgrounds.
One of the home of Agape Vision is located in Subang Jaya and has supported 200 youths from shelter homes or who live with family. Agape Vision offers various programmes that are designed to empower the youth to become effective leaders. The Expedition Agape Malaysia programme empowers the youth through service projects in underprivileged and marginalised communities both locally and internationally.
Also, there is the Leadership Development programme which helps the youths to promote positive and creative thinking while developing their leadership skills for the future. And the most recent programme is the Residential Treatment Centre (RTC) which targets teenage girls between the age of 13-17 years old, who have suffered the trauma of childhood abuse.
The youths would participate in a treatment programme whereby the counsellors will assist them in their healing journey and help them take positive control of their lives. The entire programme takes about 1.5 years to complete. Thereafter, the children will be sent back to their respective relatives’ home.
